RENEE PINTO

EVOLUTION

27 APRIL - 16 MAY 2006

‘Evolution’ – Renée Pinto’s latest collection of works is a look at how her style of painting and subject matter came to be.

Renée is known for her delicate floral works and like many of her previous shows they prove to be her main subject matter.

‘Evolution’ however, is very different to Renée’s previous shows.
The exhibition begins with a Photographic Journal of her New York Experience, which is the background to why Renée paints the way she does.

Having been in New York ready to board her flight home to Sydney on September 11 2001, this exhibition chronicles her day trips of photography, her diaries kept whilst living through a terrorist attack and her paintings completed since her return to Sydney. After years of exhibiting her oil painting, Renée is finally ready to have others view her personal journey.

Renée’s first trip overseas to New York in 2001 was to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. “What an amazing experience - just like in the movies, every moment was surreal. Days spent in class studying the Strasberg method and days off spent jumping on random subways and capturing images of New York with my camera.” – Renée Pinto.

“When I returned to Australia I was a different person. This experience had totally changed me. The one positive thing was that I started to paint again. Most people would think that after this experience my paintings would be dark & bleak. In my case it was quite the opposite, everything I painted was peaceful, tranquil and all of a soft pastel palette. Paintings to me are a vehicle that can take you to a place you want to go. My painting proved to be my form of healing.
Who knows, someday my paintings will take a turn to the dark side but till then I’m happy with calming and tranquil.”

Renée Pinto was born in Sydney Australia and has been painting & dabbling in photography from a young age. She began her creative journey working in the entertainment industry as a professional make-up artist, as well as studying theatre at various Sydney schools.
Renée’s previous solo shows include ‘Poppies in Bloom’ –2002, ‘Wallflowers’ – 2003, ‘Untitled’ – 2004, ‘All Things Pink’ – 2005. In 2004 Renee was one of 20 Australian Artists involved with in a group show for World Aids Day in conjunction with MAC Cosmetics, which was held at Orson & Blake.

In 2006 Renée has returned with ‘Evolution’ a body of work that incorporates both her paintings and photography.
An extremely personal exhibition, Evolution combines Renée’s actual journal entries that document her experiences through September 11.

Renée’s paintings have a way of capturing the viewer, entrapping and transporting the body and mind to a calm, tranquil place.

Subconsciously, Renée believes that she paints these scenes, as they are the places that she wanted to imagine being in, trying to forget the darkness, which she had experienced.
