RAELEEN PFEIFFER

TRANSFORMATION

23 FEBRUARY - 14 MARCH 2006

The works that constitute Transformation were created between 2004 and 2006.
They are the result of a transformation that which Raeleen Pfeiffer underwent in response to the death of her mother.
There is an expression of grief in some of the works, but also new signs of potential.

‘I started the process with investigative pencil drawings of forms that attracted me – sometimes isolating a subject from the original, as with the seed from the sunflower. I also took reference photos of surfaces and patinas and created experiments and samples on paper and canvas to support my application of the paint and enrich my imagery. The works have come from within. They are intuitive responses to my emotions. My mothers death has changed my perception on life and stirs my inner harmony.’ – Raeleen Pfeiffer

Raeleen Pfeiffer was born in Sydney but has lived most of her life in Wagga Wagga. She currently lives on a farm near The Rock with her husband, daughter and son, from where she conducts a freelance art and graphics business from home.

In September 2001 she had her first solo art exhibition – Introspection. The exhibition was an uncompromising investigation into what “self portrait” means for a woman. The exhibition was subsequently shown at the Blender Gallery in Sydney (2003) and at the Charles Smith Gallery in Melbourne (2004).

In 2003 and 2004 Pfeiffer focused on painting at the Wagga Wagga campus of the Riverina Institute of TAFE. It was there, under the direction of Mary-Jane Griggs, that she began creating the works for Transformation.

In 2005 Pfeiffer exhibited the artworks in the All In One Go Mark II at Wagga Wagga Regional Art Gallery and enrolled in TAFE to update her skills with Photoshop and has utilised this skill to support more works that encompass a transformation.

Pfeiffer is continually working on imagery from this subject.
Her ideas and style continues to evolve.
