LOUISA SETON

TRIBAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA

18 MAY - 6 JUNE 2006

Blender Gallery is proud to present a collection of Tribal Photographs of Papua New Guinea by Louisa Seton.

Louisa was raised in Nairobi, Kenya and has been exhibiting her Fine Art photographs in Australia for the last four years.

Louisa specialises in tribal imagery, having been influenced and surrounded by African traditions and culture from a very young age.

Flying along side her father in his light aircraft, exploring remote parts of the country, and growing up in such rich cultural surroundings imprinted in her a great respect for the peoples she encountered and inspired a deep appreciation of the beauty of nature.

On show for the first time at Blender gallery is a collection of her unique tribal portraits from Papua New Guinea.

Louisa’s colour photographs captivate the viewer with their raw beauty, giving a vibrant portrayal of these fascinating people.

In-turn, her black and white images, reflect an intimacy in her subject that leaves one with a deep sense of nostalgia of times gone by.

“I always had a passion for photography but nothing reveals my love of the art as my images of the tribal clans. I can never sincerely convey the raw beauty and timeless nobility of these fascinating people, fortunately I was able to spend time amongst them and hopefully my portraits capture something of the essence of their spirits. I don’t pretend that I can truly do them justice however to me they remain powerful and lasting images of a world almost forgotten” ” – Louisa Seton

Louisa studied Fine Art at Rhodes University, South Africa, majoring in Photography. It was here, with her faithful Nikon FM2, that she explored further her passion for photography.

She staged her first solo exhibition in London in 2000, which generated a huge response and led to the founding of LS Images, where she sold her work to a variety of clients as Fine Art prints. During her last year in London Louisa won the "Travel Photo of the Year" competition, category "Face to Face". With over 3000 entrants, it is the largest of it's kind in Britain. This major achievement resulted in a photographic commission from Wonderlust Travel magazine and the Brazilian Tourist Board shooting on location in Brazil.

Louisa’s most recent solo exhibition, ‘Out of Africa’ held at the Bondi Pavilion Art Gallery in 2005 was a huge success, with a leading Sydney based Art Collector purchasing a copy of each print in the collection.
