Shooting on Sydney’s Bondi Beach at the end of the day, when the artificial light from the street mixed perfectly with the last of the daylight, ‘Bondi Nightscapes’ is a fusion of the genres of landscape and documentary photography.
Kent Mathews wants his photographic images to have the aesthetic beauty of the landscape, along with the narrative and spontaneity of the documentary.
Mathews shoots all of his images are using long exposure techniques to create a painterly and abstract feeling, while retaining enough detail to be able to read each moment through the subtleties of body language.
Ultimately Mathews hopes that the series ‘Bondi Nightscapes’ succeeds in exploring our relationship with the ocean as a constant source of power and beauty within our lives.
Kent Mathews was born and educated in London, England.
He graduated in photography from the University of Westminster in 1994, and then set out on a commercial photography career working for photographers in both the UK and USA.
