"UNTITLED"

A series of 13 Photogravures

VIEW NOCTURNAL FANTASIES

“As we walk through life, there are many paths that we can follow, many turns that we can take and many obstacles that can make us fall.

The light we see can seem so dim at times, - it hardly lights the way. Like the light of a candle at night - time, it may seem so fragile and easily diminished, but simultaneously when looking closer, so strong, defined and full of energy.

The journey of constant re-discovery and re-invention, of the daily new placement of the foot on foreign grounds and the acknowledgement of the non-existence of a definite answer, is the essence behind the abstract imagery of “Untitled”.

The 13 petite photogravures document the shapes and developing movements of the female body portrayed. The conclusion poses one portrait, embedded in so much velvety darkness that though we can feel the person looking straight at us, she still remains guarded within her anonymousity.

And so I wish for each viewer and simultaneously “voyeur” to find their own image, character, emotion and thought behind the pictures presented.

Re-invent, re-discover and enjoy entering into foreign grounds that are yet to become familiar.”

- YennY

The process of the photogravure was chosen as the final process for various reasons.

Mostly because of the actually look of it, but also for the hand worked characteristics of it, e.g. that no re-print of one image will look exactly the same as the previous.

The original images are all SX 70 Polaroid’s, not film or digital, - so it was very important for YennY to keep that sense of “uniqueness”.

None of the images are manipulated or altered, as the “Untitled” series is about the instant capturing of the moment, mood and form.

The final prints are the size of 10x10cm, to emphasise the intimate and personal character of the images as well as to establish exactly that atmosphere between the viewer and the artwork.

The images were lit with the flame of one candle only, to give it the apparent rich red tones and, again, intimate character. YennY found the certain uncontrolled nature and simplicity of the candle more suitable for the slow journey of re-discovery and re-invention, that is the underlying theme within the series.
