The final results of a more then two year long cooperation between the award – winning Viennese Photo-Media Artist YennY and the Melbourne Fashion Designers Elisabeth Lazanas and Chad Esler, founders of the highly innovative, independent fashion label Tunguska, are now finally on show in Sydney.
Blender Gallery is very pleased to host this innovative exhibition at the time of Sydney Fashion Week, where Sydney is very much focused on the fresh creative styles of new designers and artists.
Tunguskas carefully hand crafted pieces of wearable art, with an unmistakable amount of fine detail, are presented within a series of “larger than life” Photographic Images, giving each piece of clothing, - each character, its own identity that then comes to life in the world of the Photo-Media Artists nocturnal creation.
The end result is a highly complex body of work that will take the viewer into a unique, mystique world of dreams, desires and night time fantasies as well as unleash a wild mixture of emotions and thoughts within.
“Nocturnal Fantasies is the result of many sleepless nights shared by all the participants on various occasions over the last 12 months.
There is something very unique about creating late at night. Especially when you are at places such as an abandoned factory or a cemetery at full moon. It brings out the true essence and final cut to the image in mind.
For me, the choice of location has therefore always been a very vital aspect for each image in this project.
The location would need to bring the character, created by the designer, make-up and hair stylist alive and become the stage of the dream and fantasy visualized. Secondly as well help to evoke desires, emotions, such as fear and pleasure and portray the kind of duality that surrounds us and life at all times.”
- YennY
What started as an anonymous “partnership” YennY has worked with Libby Lazanas and Chad Esler, the two creators of the independent Fashion Label Tunguska for over 2 years.
YennY’s aim with “Nocturnal Fantasies” was to visualize Tunguska’s creative and almost theatrical diverse range of designs in a world of its own.
“I have always felt that Tunguska’s Designers were storytellers themselves. They capture social history, human history, life and death with passion and devotion to create an emotional response, - all characteristics that I value very highly and have long also made an ultimate goal of my own work.”
Although the garments themselves will not be on display, the body of photographic work exudes the tangible aspect of fashion.
Both artists have achieved their aim to not only create for the sake of creation or sales but rather to portrait and communicate a piece of social & human history as well as life & death at an extraordinary high standard and with full passion and devotion.
