Derryn Tal is a Sydney artist who is rapidly making a name for herself in the art world. She has exhibited at various galleries and artist-run spaces as well as the Sydney Affordable Art Show and Art Award exhibitions.
Her art has been acquired by a number of private and corporate collectors worldwide.
Derryn’s latest exhibition ‘Lunar Land and Sea’ represents powerful moon imagery and beautifully assembled landscapes.
The ‘Lunar’ images are inspired by night moods. In these atmospheric artworks she conveys a mystical obscurity, while moon images shed a luminous light over murky, shadowy skies.
The colours and texture in Derryn’s works create a wonderful depth and intrigue, which draw the viewer in to find surprising detail.
Derryn sees herself as a mixed media assemblage artist, using a variety of media such as bitumen, acrylic and oil glazes, then assembling different canvases together to create a whole.
By contrast, Derryn’s landscapes have crisp white surrounds depicting the brightness of day. Her earthy landscapes create trails through terrestrial passages of time.
The ‘Land and Sea’ series are smaller pieces of more intimate artworks assembled together to create a whole. Derryn treats her canvas as if it is a fabric, taking it out of its ‘normal’ state. Derryn relates her work to putting a puzzle together. With one missing piece, the puzzle is not complete. Every piece is of utmost importance.
This body of work by Derryn Tal comes together to form the exhibition ‘Lunar Land and Sea’, which will be opened by Adrienne M. Ryan (BA (Hons), GAICD ), Mayor of Ku-Ring-Gai, on Thursday August 26th at Blender Gallery, Paddington at 6pm. The exhibition will run until September 14th.
